GARO

BRANDING, LOGO & POSTCARD SET - CONTRACT
ROCKY MOUNTAIN LAND LIBRARY ONLINE OUTPOST

Rocky Mountain Land Library is a non-for-profit library located at Buffalo Peaks Ranch in South Park, Colorado. The Land Library’s ultimate vision is a residential retreat center and library, with summer reading programs and outreach throught Colorado state. RMLL’s creative director, Christine Parker, saw a past letterpress card project & reached out to me about branding their online literary outpost GARO that curates art, poetry, and stories from creatives whose work focuses on a connection to nature.

I worked with Christine to create a logo that I felt could work for both print and web usage. The final logo was an image of the re-claimed barn that RMLL uses for a logotype. I did a linocut of a sketch I had done and then cleaned it up in illustrator for the final logo. The logo also incoporates hand-done type which was inspired by type I found in old library books Ex Libre pages.

POSTCARD SET FOR GARO

After I finished the logo, I wanted to further explore the brand I had sought to create. I decided that a flora themed postcard set would be a great way to add my colors and illustrations to the brand of Garo. I drew sage flowers and local colorado wildflowers as backgrounds and images for the postcards.

I wanted to also incoporate some quotes about nature so I used poets that talk about the beauty of nature including Walt Whitman & Eliza Steele who wrote poems about the violent beauty of the pariries and grasslands of North American landscape.

I made boxes for the cards out of a recycled craft-paper, because it made sense for a brand that is about appreciating nature. The boxes were also screenprinted. The boxes are themed for different sets of Flora, Fauna, Tracks, and Stars.
