OFF CAMPUS LIVINGWEB DESIGN & PRINT PRODUCTION - STUDENT JOB
WESTERN WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY, STUDENT OUTREACH
Off Campus Living is a campaign (web and print) at Western Washington University to address students needs as they begin to think about moving off campus and becoming a part of the renting populace of Bellingham Washington. I was hired to do a variety of design work. I made posters, table tents, and social media graphics. I was in charge of sending documents to our local campus printing facility and delivering print materials to various PR places on campus.
I developed a whole set of icons for use on the Off Campus Living website.
THE WEBSITEMy biggest project was to re-organize and re-vamp the Off Campus Living Website in terms of design & content. I worked with my supervisor to significantly change language, organize links, and create new content that would be helpful for students interested in moving off campus My restriction was to work within a wordpress Genesis Theme that Western uses for it’s non-departmental sites. I inputed custom CSS to make the site adhere to our branding, while not conflicting with Western’s own brand guildlines.
My co-worker and I organized multiple website testing events; a total of 30 students were asked questions before and after reviewing the site. After which I implemented changes to the site based on what students wanted. We also set up a meeting with Lakeway Property Management Company to receive feedback on the site from a landlord/rental agency perscpetive.
Overall, our feedback on the site was positive; students felt the hierarchy was good and that it was generally easy to find the information they needed. They liked how colorful the site was, and felt they would reccommend it to their friends for rental advice. We are planning on doing a set of videos Summer 2018 for a series on conflict resolution.
